Pizza Hut is adding 25 percent more cheese to its pan pizzas. The new pizzas will require 150 million pounds of milk to produce the increase in cheese.

Pizza Hut uses several different overs in its restaurants, so finding a way to evenly bake the pizza has been a challenge that the restaurant has had to overcome.

The restaurant chain called on Dairy Management Inc. (DMI) to help create pizzas with that much extra cheese. Pizza Hut made 8,500 test pizzas before a finished recipe was decided upon.

“This is another great example of the power of a partner working with our checkoff team to give consumers a product they truly desire,” says Marilyn Hershey, Pennsylvania dairy farmer and chairman of DMI, which manages the national dairy checkoff. “It’s also a win for farmers as we continue to explore new and innovative avenues for our milk production through our partnerships.”
