As food-borne illness outbreaks are publicized, food safety increasing.

Since there is promising growing conditions in China, there has been an increase in perishable food imports.

According to Dr. Luis Ribera, an agricultural economist at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Weslaco, China is the fourth largest importer of fresh vegetables in the United States, which can be a concern due to the past contamination issues in relation to animal products, baby products and milk.
