Truck Driver Shortage Worsens

The report, ATA’s fourth major analysis since 2005, shows that by the end of 2015, the driver shortage will reach nearly 48,000. If current trends hold, the shortage may balloon to almost 175,000 by 2024.

According to a new analysis by the American Trucking Associations, the shortage of truck drivers has grown to nearly 48,000 and could expand further due to industry growth and a retiring workforce.

China’s Economic Woes Weaken U.S. Exports

September was the eighth straight month in which empty containers leaving the Port of Long Beach outnumbered those loaded with exports.

Last month, Long Beach and the Port of Oakland both reported double-digit gains in exports of empty containers. So far this year, empties at the two ports are up more than 20 percent from a year earlier.
