Senator Proposes Meat and Poultry Safety Bill

Bill comes in response to the GAO report that was critical of the Poultry Safety Program

In a follow up item to Monday's podcast by Food Logistics Editor-in-Chief Lara Sowinski that mentioned the USDA's proposal to allow faster lines at meat and poultry processing plants with less inspectors, well it seems she's not the only one that thinks it's a bad idea.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, chairwoman of the Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, Poultry, Marketing and Agriculture Security, introduced the Safe Meat and Poultry Act on Thursday with the goal of updating the nation’s dated meat and poultry inspection and consumer notification system.
