According to Reuters, India imposed new tariffs on 28 United States products Sunday, including almonds, apples and walnuts.

The Washington Post reported that some penalties are as high as 70 percent.

The tariffs are retaliatory in nature during to Washington’s withdrawal from the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) with India, and one of the indications of trade tensions since President Donald Trump vowed in 2017 to act against countries with large trade deficits.

India has vowed to uphold its own interests, and Prime Minister Narenda Modi will meet with Trump at the G20 summit in Japan later this month.
