Drones Used to Monitor Railroad Employee Safety

Union Pacific is using drones to monitor employee practices.

Drones

Union Pacific is flying drones over employees working to make sure they are following safety precautions. The company has temporarily ceased its aerial monitoring due to employee complaints, but plans on resuming the procedure.

The surveillance is intended to capture any deviation from established guidelines. The monitoring has the railroad worker's union concerned. Employees have said that the drones are endangering them and serving as a distraction. Instead of focusing at the task at hand, the workers are looking up to see what is circling around them.

Infrastructures have been benefitting from the use of drones in regards to remote monitoring. It can be argued that Union Pacific is monitoring its employees for other concerns than safety.
