New data from IDScan.net, revealed alarming levels of ID fraud within the cargo and logistics industry, outpacing that of U.S. bars and nightclubs by as much as 4.5 times.

"Most people associate fake IDs with underage drinking, but the reality is far more concerning in industries like cargo and logistics, where fraudulent IDs can enable access to high-value goods and restricted areas. The implications are serious-from theft and loss prevention, to national security risks,” says Jimmy Roussel, CEO at IDScan.net. "While hospitality venues such as bars and nightclubs are increasingly adopting advanced ID scanners and fake ID detection technology, many logistics firms still rely on manual checks, paper logs, or outdated systems. It is this gap that is creating an opportunity for bad actors to exploit.”

Key takeaways:

·        From an analysis of over 350,000 ID scans from drivers in the cargo and logistics sector performed in 2025, IDScan.net found that 3.19% of identity documents presented within this industry segment were fraudulent or expired.

·        To compare the levels of fraud to that seen in bars and nightclubs across the United States, from 526,000 scans in those institutions, IDScan.net found the rate of fraud to be between 0.7% and 2%, meaning ID fraud in cargo and logistics is up to 4.5 times higher than in bars and nightclubs.

·        The rate of ID fraud seen in these industries is attributed to a growing black market for forged Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs), inconsistent enforcement of ID verification standards across logistics operations, and the increasing reliance on contract drivers and third-party logistics firms.
