Rochester, NY: The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) has partnered with supermarket chain, Wegmans Food Markets Inc., to assist with its aquaculture sustainability program.

Wegmans has continued its staunch commitment to sustainable aquaculture and will partner with the GAA to develop guidelines for its aquaculture program that will require suppliers source from environmentally responsible sources. The areas of the supply chain to be covered are the processing facility, farm and hatchery.

Wegmans is a regional supermarket chain based in Rochester, New York, USA. Wegmans operates 77 stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland.

Wegmans proudly operates its seafood sustainability program anchored by one very powerful statement “…We Do It for Our Grandchildren.” It is in following this philosophy that the company has made this commitment with the GAA to have a real and lasting impact on the future of aquaculture and the wider supply chain.

The Global Aquaculture Alliance is proud to include Wegmans to the ever-expanding list of retailers that are taking a role in changing the course of aquaculture production around the world.
