Coca-Cola Tests Arctic Soda Machines

Coca-Cola embarks on its quest to serve slushies in soda machines.

Coca-Cola unveiled its Arctic Coke machines for a nation-wide test. About 800 units are in convenience stores across the country.

The Arctic Coke machines keep 20 oz. bottles at just below freezing temperatures, 10 to 15 degrees cooler than regular soda machines. The machine will be able to transform the soda into a slushie within seconds. The ice that forms inside the bottle is the product, so it doesn’t dilute the product.

The test machine so far only includes Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Sprite and Powerade Mountain Blast. The company said Cherry Coke, Fanta Orange and Mello Yellow will soon be added to certain locations.

Coca-Cola is still working to overcome a few obstacles, however. It has been reported that it can take up to 12 hours to cool the beverages to the proper temperature, limiting the machine's initial effectiveness.
