The Times of India reports on street vendors and the inability to maintain adequate food safety standards. Laboratories testing under the Food Safety and Standard Act are currently relegated only to testing samples of food already felt to be substandard. “There is no facility to check the micro-bacterial elements in food, which means if the food is stale and contaminated, we cannot identify it as such,” said Ashok Kumar Sharma, informed designated offer from the Food and Drug Administration.
