Agility joins IBM and Maersk's Blockchain Collaboration

Agility's role in the collaboration is to share and receive information about individual shipments in hopes to reduce costs of administration and documentation.

Agility announced that it will join IBM and Maersk's blockchain collaboration. Agility will share and receive information about individual shipments in hopes to reduce costs of administration and documentation which currently makes up $1.8 trillion in shipping costs. Maersk and IBM first announced their global trade digitization program back in January.

Blockchain technology will be able to streamline technology by showing the status of documents like customs forms and bills of lading. Blockchains will also be able to make shipping safer and overall more reliable.

Other blockchain shipping initiatives are currently underway, but critics fear that with multiple projects occurring at the same time will result in a program much like their current.
