Kraft Foods has recalled 1.2 million cases of cottage cheese that came from a California manufacturing facility over concerns that improper storage could lead the dairy product to prematurely spoil and sicken consumers.
The company said in a statement issued Saturday that some of the ingredients used in the making of its Knudsen, Breakstone's, Simply Kraft and Daily Chef labels cheeses were not stored "in accordance with Kraft's temperature standards."
No illnesses have been reported and Kraft said the recall was issued as a precaution.
The affected food products have date codes ranging from May 9 through July 23 and were sold nationwide. A full list of the products recalled can be found on the Kraft Foods website.
Kraft said the Tulare, Calif., manufacturing facility has halted production while the company works to fix the problem that led to the recall. Consumers are entitled to a full refund or exchange and can call (800) 396-6307 for more information.
