NYC Regulations Lessens Trans Fat In Fast Food Chains

Trans fat, which is frequently in hydrogenated vegetable oils, has been linked to heart disease.

Effective in 2008 and passed in 2006, New York City had created regulations that prohibits restaurants from serving food that contain a gram or more of trans fat per serving.

"What New York City’s trans fat ban has done is force the removal of unhealthy fats from foods that are eaten on a daily basis by many people," says Alice H. Lichtenstein, the director of the cardiovascular nutrition laboratory at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging.
