Defining A Decade

A look at how logistics in the food industry has transformed over the past 10 years.

When Food Logistics was launched in 1997, the food industry was undergoing a radical transformation.

It was no longer just enough to push product out the door—markets had matured, consumers were more demanding.

At the heart of this transformation was logistics. The term originally applied to the movement of people and supplies in wartime. But as we pointed out in the very first issue of Food Logistics, logistics was emerging as the "last bastion for competitive advantage in the food industry."

At the time, most food companies didn't think of using logistics as a strategic way to bring value to their organizations. As you read through the following pages, however, you will see just how much the industry has changed during over the past decade.

We hope it brings back some good memories.
