UK Frozen Food Group Calls New Research Report 'Misleading'

The British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF) is fighting back, saying the report misleads people into thinking frozen fruit is not as benefical and healthy as frsh fruit.

A new study released this week by researchers from the University College London (UCL) that tries to show that eating five portions of fruits and vegetables a day might not be enough to protect consumers from health risks and cardiovascular disease is causing conflict with the British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF).

It's not the fact that the study is actually recommending consumers eat seven portions a day, more than the government-back 5-A-Day scheme recommends, but the fact that the study goes on to elaborate that eating frozen fruits and vegetables may not be as healthy as eating frozen.

The BFFF is claiming that the study "misleads" people to believe that frozen varieties are not as beneficial as fresh, an mistakenly lumps frozen fruits and vegetables in with canned varieties unfairly.

"In fact, research over the years has consistently shown that frozen fruit and vegetables can have equivalent or higher levels of vitamins and nutrients compared to fresh as freezing acts as nature's preservative to lock in nutrients at their peak," said BFFF director general Brian Young.
