A survey by FourKites found that yard management represents a potentially costly blind spot for shippers and their supply chain partners. The report, “State of Yard Management: Industry Report 2021” highlights particular barriers that withhold optimization of yard operations.

The survey found that 92% of respondents believe a yard management system (YMS) would add value to their organizations, while only 25% reported to having a YMS. Because of this, companies have had to accept inefficiencies that come from a lack of real-time visibility and automation in the yard.

Per Globe Newswire:

  • More than half of respondents cite manual processes as their biggest challenge when it comes to both yard and appointment management (55% and 52%, respectively).
  • Over 40% of Retailers have adopted a YMS, representing the highest group of users among the industries surveyed.
  • 27% of respondents do not maintain any kind of yard or appointment performance metrics.
