e-Testing IT for Uncle Sam

KPMG drafts Alterion for e-testing as part of U.S. Army IT management project

Conshohocken, PA September 27, 2001 The borough of Conshohocken (2000 population: 7,589) has much to celebrate these days.

First, one of its own is due to appear in the third edition of the popular Survivor television series this fall.

But more important for our purposes, Alterion, a provider of independent e-testing and quality assurance services that is headquartered in the Philadelphia suburb, has been selected to be a part of KPMG Consulting's blanket purchase agreement (BPA) team for the U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Standard Army Management Information Systems (PEO STAMIS).

PEO STAMIS is the Army's primary organization for developing and managing information technology (IT) systems to support operations such as providing and maintaining soldiers' equipment, planning the movement of supplies and assets, tracking the Army's personnel, and recruiting and training soldiers.

Alterion will have the opportunity to receive task orders to provide independent verification and validation (IV&V) services, program management, acquisition support and independent testing services in the integration area. Currently, PEO STAMIS manages about 20 IT programs in the area of logistics, personnel, procurement, transportation and medical systems.

KPMG estimates the total value of the agreement at $277 million if all options are exercised, with a 10 percent small business requirement for companies such as Alterion.

Alterion provides independent e-testing and analysis services in the B2B, B2G and B2C arenas. For example, the company offers acquisition support for the procurement of IT solutions for government agencies and private companies. Alterion also can evaluate whether a firm is prepared for e-commerce.

"Alterion is proud to be a member of the winning KPMG BPA team and looks forward to providing our independent e-testing program oversight services to PEO STAMIS," said Edward McLaughlin, Alterion's president. McLaughlin said the new project would be "an essential piece to Alterion's future growth and expansion."

Meanwhile, no word on whether 29-year-old Kim Powers, a freelance marketer from Conshohocken, will ultimately prevail in third Survivor' series on CBS, set to debut October 11. Stay tuned.
