Siemens Opens New Memphis-Area Distribution Center

New 619,000 square-foot facility will improve customer service, simplify the chain of distribution.

Atlanta: Siemens Industry Inc. inaugurated its new distribution center in Southaven, MS, with a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning. Located just three miles from the Memphis International Airport, the distribution center will enable faster delivery to more customers than ever before and is expected to create approximately 200 jobs. The center fulfills orders for electrical distribution products such as circuit breakers, load centers, panelboards and switchgear, as well as controls products and motors.

The new 619,000 square-foot facility will improve customer service by simplifying the chain of distribution and shortening the order cycle time, while reducing the costs of distribution. Approximately 10 percent of shipments currently are split between two or more distribution centers. This new center will result in fewer split shipments and will provide customers with the ability to view inventory in one location. The central location of the new facility will allow Siemens Industry to provide two-day shipping service to a greater percentage of its customer base.

This centrally located facility will not only streamline our supply chain, but also will save our customers time by simplifying the ordering and shipping process, said Daryl Dulaney, president and CEO, Siemens Industry, Inc. Additionally, with this new facility, we have the ability to expand the storage capacity by 30 percent over current levels with minimal investment, allowing us to meet customer demand well into the next decade.

I applaud Siemens for choosing Mississippi as the location for its new distribution center, said Senator Roger Wicker. Mississippi has a strong, competitive workforce that helps our state grow as a transportation and logistics hub for the Southeast.

The distribution center, which is located at 101 Airport Industrial Drive in Southaven, MS, will feature Siemens technologies in its security systems, lighting and conveyor systems. The energy efficient facility is equipped with motion sensors on lights in the warehouse and offices to reduce energy consumption.
