CEVA Logistics has appointed Renee Toh as its global head of ocean procurement & tradelane management in an effort to further strengthen its management team. Effective April 2019, Toh will report directly to CEVA's Global Head of Ocean Bertrand Simion. She will be based in Singapore.

Toh brings extensive industry and operational experience to her new role and has a strong background in ocean freight forwarding. With more than 20 years' experience, including working for both carriers and NVOCCs, she joins CEVA from DHL Global Forwarding where she led a team of tradelane specialists.

"We are delighted to welcome Renee to this position where she will spearhead our procurement strategy and drive our tradelane management. With key individuals leading our dedicated product development, we are confident of its continued success as we further grow the business," says Simion.

The appointment comes on the heels of CEVA's acquistion by container shipping company CMA CGM, which now owns almost all of the Swiss logistics company after its public tender offer for shares in February. FreightWaves reports that the CEVA Logistics board is now recommending that remaining shareholders sell their stake to CMA CGM.

"The squeeze-out of the last shareholders marks the beginning of the end of CEVA Logistics’ tenure as a public company and brings CMA CGM closer to being an integrated logistics player, adding trucking and warehousing expertise to ocean shipping. It’s a strategy other ocean carriers are pursuing to move away from a commodity transport service. But some see the move as a risky, leveraged bet on another sector that faces its own competitive pressures," writes Micahel Angell, bulk and intermodal editor at FreightWaves.
