Grocery Delivery to Cost Households More Each Month

Grocery delivery can cost a family upwards of $100 more each month due to upcharges.

Grocery Delivery

Grocers have been racing to offer home delivery for its customers as e-commerce starts to determine the way people shop. However, Checkbook.org reports that families will spend upwards of $100 more each month for deliveries.

The organization found that Shipt's markup for delivery is 14 percent, while Instacart's markup for delivering Costco products is at 23 percent, fully wiping out any savings one might have had from purchasing through the bulk retailer.

Meanwhile, it is still unclear about the quality of fresh produce consumers will receive from their deliveries. However, by offering the option to pickup the groceries at the store, customers are able to check the quality of the food they have purchased before they leave.
