The Food Lion, partnership between Coca-Cola Co. and its bottlers in Brazil reached a deal to buy Campo Verde, a maker of yogurts, cheeses and drinks derived from milk, according to BetaVeja.com, a Latin American business news site.
The transaction will mark the debut of Coke in the dairy segment in the country and follows the Atlanta tendency to expand your business to healthy drinks.
Coca-Cola - which already has in its portfolio the Del Valle juices and tea Matte Leão - already made other purchases in the dairy sector in Latin America. In 2012, Jugos del Valle joint venture between Coca-Cola bottlers eight, bought the Santa Clara, the largest dairy manufacturer in Mexico; and in 2013, the Arca Continental, the second largest bottler of Coca in Latin America, bought the Tonicorp, Ecuador, for 400 million dollars.
The Dairy Campo Verde Ltda., Based in Lavras, Minas Gerais, is now a small business, almost a boutique, has significant activity only in Rio, Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte. For some consumers, the company is best known for LacFree brand, a line of lactose-free products which pioneered in Brazil.
