House Passes Bill to Open Up Port Dredging in Florida

The Water Resources Reform and Development Act would authorize $1 billion in navigation and water projects

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Water Resources Reform and Development Act late last week, which could authorize $1 billion in navigation and water projects to improve Florida's ports and advance Everglades restoration, clearing one more hurdle and getting closer to becoming reality in the Sunshine State. The bill now moves on the the Senate for passage, but a similar bill passed the senate in August so it's not expended to be held up for long.

A late amendment added into the bill allows Port Everglades to move ahead with design, engineering and planning without waiting for a report from the chief of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, port spokeswoman Ellen Kennedy said. The port hopes to start dredging in 2015 and be done by 2017. To read more, click HERE.
