Global Food Manufacturers Select QAD

Sun-Maid and others to extend EDI capabilities

Carpinteria, CA January 14, 2003 QAD, a provider of collaborative commerce solutions for global manufacturers, today announced that it has earned new contracts from Nancy's Specialty Foods, Oberto Sausage Co. and Sun-Maid.

Having standardized enterprise operations on QAD's MFG/PRO suite of enterprise applications for manufacturing, these food and beverage manufacturers have also recently selected QAD's EDI ECommerce management solution as a collaborative commerce platform to improve communication with trading partners.

Sun-Maid, which sells raisins worldwide, chose QAD EDI Ecommerce because of its features and cost-saving potential. "QAD's EDI ECommerce product is very well crafted and extends our current EDI capabilities," said Richard Hampton, Sun-Maid's director of information systems. "We know it will reduce our long-term costs."

For Oberto Sausage Co., which produces and markets meat snacks under multiple brand names, EDI ECommerce has the flexibility and management tools its requires to improve response time to customers. "We liked the flexibility EDI ECommerce gives us in regard to controlling our EDI," said Sean Vasquez, Oberto Sausage Co. application administrator. "We have total control of the information and can make changes on the fly, greatly increasing our response time to customers."

David Siegfried, MIS manager of Nancy's Specialty Foods, the largest U.S. producer of frozen quiche products, said he chose EDI ECommerce because "the migration from our current EDI system to QAD EDI ECommerce was a move to a supported EDI solution. It allows us to move forward to the next version of MFG/PRO."

To better accommodate trading partners' EDI requirements, Nancy's Specialty Foods, Oberto and Sun-Maid will implement QAD's EDI ECommerce application and Trading Partner Library (TPL) of EDI specifications. EDI ECommerce, a transaction mapping and data-conditioning application, is based on open, database table-based architecture to support most EDI standards and enable message conversion. Its table-driven design also speeds up implementation and maintenance.

QAD said it would engage members of its food and beverage industry user group to collectively prioritize additional TPL enhancements and provide training. "We work closely with food and beverage manufacturers to provide the flavor of EDI support most suited to their real-world needs," said Pamela Lopker, QAD president and chairman of the board.
