Carrier Transicold Celebrates Sale of 1 Millionth Container Refrigeration Unit

Forty-six years after pioneering the first front-wall, or "picture-frame," refrigeration unit, Carrier Transicold presented its one millionth unit during a ceremony at its Singapore manufacturing facility.

After 46 years since pioneering the first front-wall, or "picture-frame," refrigeration unit, Carrier Transicold announced recently they presented their one millionth unit during a ceremony at its Singapore manufacturing facility. The milestone unit, a PrimeLINE unit with XtendFRESH atmosphere control system, was presented to CMA CGM, the world's third-largest container shipping company and one of Carrier's long-standing and valued customers.

"The 1 millionth container unit is an accomplishment not only for our company and the thousands of employees around the world who have helped make it possible, but for the marine shipping industry," said David Appel, president, Carrier Transicold & Refrigeration Systems. "It demonstrates the technological progress we are making to achieve greater efficiency while maintaining best-in-class performance, helping move shippers toward more environmentally sustainable refrigerants and bringing further innovations in system efficiency and cargo protection along the way."

"Today, 52 percent of world seaborne trade is delivered efficiently and economically by container vessel, and 65 percent of refrigerated products are transported in containers, the majority of which are efficiently and reliably temperature-controlled by Carrier Transicold systems," said Chiou Fun Sin, president, Global Container Refrigeration, Carrier Transicold. "On any given day, the value of cargo delivered by Carrier Transicold units alone is valued at $6 billion. Indeed, Carrier Transicold systems and our global service and support network play a significant role in ensuring the well-being of a growing global population, by providing the safe, reliable transport of produce, meat, seafood, vaccines and medicine from hemisphere to hemisphere, 24 hours a day, every day of the year."

"In addition to our commitment to offering high-quality solutions at every stage of the transport cycle, CMA CGM is dedicated to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable business operations," said Alexis Michel, senior vice president, Container and Reefer Logistics, CMA CGM. "We have significantly reduced our carbon footprint over the past 10 years, and we are always seeking out new technologies that will help us reach our sustainability goals while also meeting our high standards for performance and efficiency. The PrimeLINE unit wins on both of these fronts, which is why we have been building up our fleet with PrimeLINE units since they were launched in 2008.
