The Maritime Employers Association announced a three-day strike at two terminals, beginning Sept. 30 at 7 a.m. The strike is expected to last through Thursday, and affects close to 350 members.

“The AEM tried by all available means to avoid the strike planned for tomorrow at the Viau and Maisonneuve terminals of the Termont company at the Port of Montreal, but in vain,” according to a statement released by the Maritime Employers Association. “Whether through mediation, supported by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, or before the Canada Industrial Relations Board in an emergency hearing this afternoon, our efforts have not borne fruit. The AEM is very disappointed with this outcome and sincerely hoped to be able to find common ground between the parties to maintain our activities. The priority of the AEM remains the signing of a negotiated collective agreement as soon as possible.”

The longshore workers' contract with the Maritime Employers Association expired Dec. 31, 2023.
