Complex processes and customer demands in the food logistics industry require seamless operation of distribution centers and food logistics providers need to know if their critical equipment, such as stacker cranes and other rail-guided vehicles, are performing reliably every day. Determining whether their cranes were operating at peak performance has proved a challenge for many.

PSI Technics’ MA6000MC Motion Analysis Kit marks the industry’s first service that sheds new light on the performance of crane systems used in food logistics. The MA6000MC Motion Analysis Kit offers the ability to analyze the behavior of any crane system used in automated storage and retrieval facilities (ASRS) in real time.

PSI Technics’ Motion Analysis Kit records a crane’s actual motion path to determine how the system behaves with and without load. The analysis highlights motion-related conditions and weak spots, such as mast oscillations, overshooting or undershooting at the target position, unnecessary creeping speed or skewing and offers insights into the systems’ positioning performance. A Motion Analysis is provided as a service by PSI Technics and requires nominal crane downtime for set-up. Several cranes can be analyzed in one day by experienced PSI Technics engineers.

Results of the Motion Study are highlighted in a detailed report which will show graphically and explain crane behavior that can be modified to improve throughput (transactions per hour), and reduce energy consumption, system wear and crane maintenance costs. For customers with multiple distribution centers or crane systems, an initial motion study can be conducted by PSI Technics aided by a customer’s n own control engineer or technician. Customers can then purchase the MA6000MC Motion Analysis Kit outright to analyze other systems or set up an annual motion study to compare with the initial baseline to ensure the cranes continue to operate at peak performance.
