United Natural Foods To Build New $38 Million DC

The 300,000-square-foot facility, located about 30 miles southeast of the Twin Cities, will be the company's second distribution center in Wisconsin.

United Natural Foods Inc., a national distributor of grocery, produce, perishables and frozen foods, announced plans this week to build a $37.8 million distribution center in Prescott, Wis., a project expected to begin in May and take one year to complete. The 300,000-square-foot facility, located about 30 miles southeast of the Twin Cities, will be the company's second distribution center in Wisconsin since UNFI also plans to open a 425,000-square-foot distribution center and warehouse this spring in Sturtevant, Wis (located just across the border from Chicago).

As part of its commitment to green initiatives, UNFI plans to pursue LEED certification for this distribution facility once operations commence.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker announced the plans for UNFI's expansion, a project that was made possible in part because of up to $3.5 million in state tax credits from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. over four years. In addition, the City of Prescott developed a $6 million incentive package that includes the land for the project, site preparation and infrastructure improvements.
