LaHood to Step Down as US Transportation Secretary
Ray LaHood, secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) since 2009, confirmed that he will not serve a second term for President Obama’s Cabinet.
In a statement written to fellow DOT employees, LaHood states: “I have let President Obama know that I will not serve a second term as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation. It has been an honor and a privilege to lead the Department, and I am grateful to President Obama for giving me such an extraordinary opportunity.”
During his time as secretary, he has helped promote high-speed rail and repair roads and bridges.
