C&S Wholesale Grocers, Keene, NH, will soon close a warehouse on Long Island that is supplying A&P stores in New York. The move is designed to save the company an estimated $7 million annually in warehousing costs. The stores will instead be supplied from a number of warehouses located in Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

Dole Fresh Vegetables Co. has converted all of its harvesting equipment at its Salinas, CA, and its Yuma, AZ, facilities to B20 bio-diesel fuel, a domestic renewable fuel for diesel engines derived from natural oils. The company has been testing B20 bio-diesel in farm equipment and off-road vehicles since this past August.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced the development of its Quality Monitoring Program, a service that will allow produce companies to submit processed produce samples to the USDA's graders for impartial review. After inspection, products that do not conform to a supplier's assigned specifications will be reported back to the company.
Jacksonville, FL-based Winn-Dixie supermarkets is selling the two dairies it operates-one in Plant City, FL and the other in Hammond, LA-to Southeast Milk Inc., a Belleview, FL-based milk cooperative. Once the sale is complete, Winn-Dixie's only remaining manufacturing operation will be the Chek Cola plant in Fitzgerald. GA. The sale is part of an effort by Winn-Dixie to focus on the retail operation of its business.

The 400,000 square-foot facility, located on 31 acres, will be completed in 2010....Preferred Freezer Services, Newark, NJ, has opened a facility in Jacksonville, FL that features 8.7 million cubic feet of freezer space and 910,000 cubic feet of cooler space. The facility also has 23 dock doors with levelers and seals.
