Pilgrim’s Pride Corp., Pittsburg, TX, has sold its turkey-production plant in New Oxford, PA, to New Oxford Foods LLC, a subsidiary of Hain Pure Protein Corp. Pilgrim’s Pride says the small size of its turkey operations made it difficult for it to earn acceptable profits and that the sale would let the company focus on its chicken business.

Thorntons, the Derbyshire, UK-based chocolatier, has implemented the Aldata G.O.L.D. Retail Supply Chain Suite from Aldata Solution Inc. to more effectively and efficiently manage increased demand and seasonal fluctuations for goods, improve ordering and replenishment processes and gain a better view of merchandise and demand by replacing outdated legacy systems.

Refrigerated truckload carrier Quest Global Inc., Atlanta, has selected TransCore’s GlobalWave trailer tracking system and will install more than 250 Sense & Track units throughout its fleet. To enhance fleet operations, Quest Global utilizes the mobile units to track trailer location and continuously monitor the temperature levels of sensitive cargo.

Hormel Foods Corp., Austin, MN, has opened a 5,000 square-foot Idea and Innovation Center in China which is dedicated to developing products for the Chinese market. The center adjoins the Hormel Foods processing facility in the Baoshan district of Shanghai. The entire creative process, from idea to testing and manufacturing, will occur at the center.

Kerry Ingredients, Tralee, Ireland, is moving operations at its Fremont, NE plant to a new site in Illinois. The plant produces ingredients for cereals and snackbars, including granola clusters, crisps and flakes.

CSAV, Valparaíso, Chile, has adopted Carrier Transicold’s eAutoFresh system for shipping produce between North and South America. The system features an on-demand ventilation option for produce-shipping container refrigeration units.

ServiceCraft Logistics, Buena Park, CA, has recently been renewed as the third-party logistics provider for Georgia-Pacific’s West Coast distribution center located in Chino, CA. Under the contract, ServiceCraft provides turnkey management of the 885,000-square-foot facility.

Goya Foods, Doral, FL, is planning to build a $26 million, 120,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility at the Pan American West Business Park in Miami-Dade County. It will serve as a strategic distribution hub for Goya’s southeast manufacturing and distribution operations.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Center for Transportation and Logistics, Cambridge, MA, has announced the creation of the MIT Global SCALE Network, an international alliance of research and education centers dedicated to the development of supply chain and logistics excellence through innovation. The Network spans North America, Latin America and Europe, with plans to expand into Asia and Africa.

United States Cold Storage Inc. has completed a 191,000-square-foot cold storage facility in Lake City, FL. It features a more environmentally sound CO2-based refrigeration system.

A. Duie Pyle Inc. has just unveiled its Northborough Service Center in Northborough, MA. The facility was based on a need for expanded capabilities, at a site where additional growth could be accommodated.

Southern Wines and Spirits of America Inc. has completed a 650,000-square-foot facility in Lakeland, FL.

WOW Logistics has built a 126,000-square-foot distribution center in Chippewa Falls, WI.

Riviana Foods Inc. has broken ground on a 400,000-square-foot rice processing and packaging plant/warehouse/distribution center in Memphis. The facility will be completed 2010.

EggFusion, Boulder, CO, offers a USDA-accepted solution for applying permanent, tamperproof laser-etched markings to the surfaces of eggshells. The process uses laser light to leave a micro-thin darkened mark on white eggs and a lightened mark on brown eggs, which does not increase crack potential. EggFusion has developed two separate on-egg services designed to promote public safety and also enhance relationships between retailers, advertisers, producers and consumers: Freshness and Traceability Coding and On-egg Messaging. Since introducing freshness and traceability coding in May 2005, the company has etched over 300 million eggs with an easy-to-read expiration date applied to each eggshell. The code provides consumers with information about the freshness of the eggs they eat, including when and where they were packaged.
