Peapod to Offer Verlasso-Brand 'Sustainable' Fish

Verlasso salmon is the first and only ocean-raised, farmed salmon ranked as "Good Alternative" by Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program

Online grocer Peapod announced this week that they will start "stocking" Verlasso salmon on its online grocery shelves. Verlasso is a premium brand salmon that is farm-raised in the Chilean ocean waters off the coast of Patagonia, using advanced aquaculture and sustainable methods to earn them a mention from the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch?, marking the first and only time an ocean-farmed salmon has been named to the list.

"We are strong proponents of sustainable food options, and so are Peapod consumers," said Tony Stallone, Peapod vice president of fresh markets in the release.  "With the significant increase in demand for seafood in recent years, it's critical that choices be sourced from responsible producers. Verlasso's model ensures water purity, protects the salmon and the wildlife in the surrounding environment, and prevents contaminants from entering into the food stream.  Because of these sustainable practices, it also delivers superior flavor and is a great choice for Peapod."

Verlasso salmon will debut on Peapod.com on November 9 at a special introductory price, and during an introductory special from Nov. 9 through Nov. 15, for every package purchased Peapod and Verlasso will donate $1 to Shedd Aquarium's conservation programs. To read more, click HERE.
