Gaithersburg, MD August 14, 2002 Logistics management services provider Transplace is using a solution from GE Global eXchange Services (GXS) to connect to key trading partners over the Internet using the Applicability Statement 2 (AS2) transaction protocol, which allows businesses to establish secure point-to-point connections as needed for transacting over the public Internet.
Transplace offers logistics and transportation management services, ranging from complete outsourcing, as a third-party logistics provider, to single shipment transportation assistance.
Transplace has implemented GXS' Enterprise System 7.5 integration broker software with a newly released AS2 module. The implementation is helping Transplace connect to new trading partners and address new business opportunities using the Internet as a communications platform.
"GXS helped us embrace AS2 and connect to mission-critical trading partners over the Internet using GXS's Enterprise System software," said Jim Schlaefer, Transplace's director of information exchange. "It is also significant to us that Enterprise System has plenty of capacity to handle our future Internet B2B communication needs as Transplace continues to grow."
GXS said its Enterprise System 7.5 provides companies with "intelligent" document routing, data transformation, business activity monitoring, multiple connection support, real-time back office integration and business process integration (BPI) capabilities.
Using Enterprise System, companies can map supply chain processes to specific business objectives, measure purchasing patterns, view specified supply chain metrics and proactively escalate issues to the correct decision-makers, according to the solution provider.
GE announced in July it would sell most of its stake in GXS to technology buyout firm Francisco Partners. The deal, valued at about $800 million, is due to close in October.
