Montreal’s Imperial Tobacco will enlist Ryder Systems, Miami, for warehousing and transportation management services as it moves forward with plans to start direct-store delivery of its tobacco products to convenience stores in Canada.

Coca-Cola Enterprises, based in Atlanta, started shipping single-serve Minute Maid products to a Texas warehouse servicing oil refiner Valero’s convenience stores instead of delivering directly to the stores. Coke and CCE have already begun warehouse delivery of Powerade to a Wal-Mart facility in Texas.

Golden State Foods, Irvine, CA, a major supplier to McDonald’s, opened a new 270,000-square-foot distribution center in City of Industry, CA. It is the first warehouse added to the McDonald’s restaurant supply chain network in 10 years.

Naked Juice, Azusa, CA, recently opened a new direct-store delivery center in Seattle to accommodate new market growth in the area.

Ice cream producer Blue Bell Creameries, Brenham, TX, is installing an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) at a warehouse in Sylacauga, AL. Westfalia Technologies of York, PA, is supplying the ASRS equipment and its proprietary warehouse management system.

Norwegian retail chain Coop TRONDOS will implement Lawson Software’s Java-based M3 enterprise resource planning (previously Movex) software across its 32 stores.

Online grocer Peapod, based in Chicago, selected Inther Integrated Systems, Cary, IL, to upgrade its distribution center in Gaithersburg, MD. The project, which includes the installation of automated conveyors and a high speed sortation system, will be completed in the fall.

Dairy products manufacturer Schroeder Co., Maplewood, MN, will implement the entire X3 Process suite, including the enterprise resource planning solution, from Adonix-USA, Pittsburgh, across its distribution and manufacturing network.

Winchester Cold Storage purchased an 86,700-square-foot warehouse, with freezer, climate-controlled and ambient storage areas, in its hometown of Winchester, VA, from Buffalo, NY-based Rich Products.

Canada Bread Frozen Bakery, Toronto, began shipping products on signature blue pallets from CHEP, Orlando, FL, from its network of 11 plants and distribution centers across North America to supermarkets, mass retailers, grocery stores, club stores and foodservice operators.

Martin’s Bulk Milk Service, a dairy hauler based in Wilton, WI, bought a 53,000-square-foot former Wal-Mart store in Sparta, WI, and converted it to a warehouse with separate areas for cold and dry storage.

Pizza restaurant chain Pizza Inn, Colony, TX, will outsource its distribution operations to SYSCO Corp.’s SYGMA Network and Institutional Jobbers (IJ), Louisville, TN, beginning Nov. 1. SYGMA will supply restaurants in the West and Midwest while IJ will handle accounts in the East.

Associated Grocers of Florida closed its two Miami distribution centers and transferred operations to a new 779,000-square-foot location in Pompano Beach, FL, which will also serve as its corporate headquarters. The grocery wholesaler acquired the facility from Winn-Dixie, which is consolidating operations in southern Florida to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, for $51 million.
