Topps Meat Expands Voluntary Recall Of Meat Patties

Qunicy, MA: Topps Meat has expanded its recall of it’s frozen, ground beef patties to more than 21.7 million pounds of its ground beef products due to potential E.coli 0157:H7 contamination.

Both Giant Food and Stop & Shop have already had pulled all Topps frozen beef patties from its store shelves. Both food chains have said that customers who still have any Topps frozen ground beef patties, regardless of UPC code or sell-by date, should throw it away or return it to any of their stores for a complete refund.

Symptoms of E.coli O157:H7 exposure may include stomach cramps and diarrhea, including diarrhea with bloody stools. Although most healthy adults can recover completely within a week, some people can develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly. If any of the described symptoms are exhibited, medical attention should be sought.

Customers with questions about the recalled product may phone Topps Meat at (908) 351-0500, Stop & Shop Customer Service at 1-800-767-7772, or Giant Food Customer Service at 1-888-4-MY-GIANT Monday - Friday, 9:00-5:00.
