National Watermelon Association Receives CHEP Contribution

Orange Beach, AL: CHEP, one of the leading pallet and container pooling companies, presented a $10,000 check to the National Watermelon Association (NWA) during the Awards Banquet at the group¹s Annual Convention. The money will help fund research, lobbying and consumer promotion activities, as well as ongoing operations at the NWA. It is the result of a partnership between the two organizations that provides financial support for NWA as more members use CHEP pallets to transport watermelons to retailers.

“We are pleased with the initial progress our members have made with the CHEP partnership and look forward to expanding it in the coming months and years,” says Bob Morrissey, Executive Director of NWA. “This check is just a first milestone in the relationship and we fully expect to see additional benefits for our members and for CHEP. The CHEP system is already helping dozens of participating NWA member locations see supply chain productivity improvements and reductions in operating costs.”

The CHEP pallet pooling program provides growers with durable shipping platforms that reduce product damage, improve productivity and are environment-friendly. CHEP’s global reach also ensures a reliable supply of pallets.

“The NWA does an excellent job on behalf of its members and we are committed to providing the association and its members with the support they need to drive supply chain innovation in the industry,” notes Tim Smith, vice president, Business Development, CHEP. “We are proud of what we¹ve accomplished so far and look to continue strengthening our involvement with our customers and their trade group in the future.”
