Coke Launches Coca-Cola Recycling


Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. has announced the launch of Coca-Cola Recycling LLC. which will concentrate on the recycling of beverage bottles in North America. The announcement follows news that the company intends to build the largest plastic bottle-to-bottle recycling plant in the world in Spartanburg, SC.

Coca-Cola Recycling will focus on recovering and recycling such packaging materials as PET plastic, plastic film, aluminum and cardboard. Coke is also developing cost-efficient solutions for reclaiming used beverage containers and establish centralized recycling centers throughout North America. The company’s goal is to recycle 100 percent of the packaging materials it generates.

"The launch of Coca-Cola Recycling marks an important milestone for CCE and the Coca-Cola system as we energize our efforts to reshape the recycling and sustainable packaging arena," says John Burgess, president and CEO, Coca-Cola Recycling.

The initial goal of the company is to develop an effective bottle collection program for Coca-Cola Enterprise's 420 bottling plants in the U.S.

"We established Coca-Cola Recycling to provide leadership and resources to help us recycle the beverage packaging we generate in North America," notes Ed Sutter, chairman, Coca-Cola Recycling.
