MINNEAPOLIS: Grocery story chain Supervalu has just announced that six members of its leadership team were named to Progressive Grocer's first annual "Top Women in Grocery" listing for their outstanding efforts, leadership and success in the supermarket industry. Of the fifty featured profiles, SUPERVALU's six honorees combined for the largest representation of a single grocery company on the list.
SUPERVALU's executive vice president and CFO, Pamela Knous; executive vice president and COO of Supply Chain Services, Janel Haugarth; Shop 'N Save president, Marlene Gebhard; ACME president, Judy Spires; Retail West senior vice president of merchandising and marketing, Sue Klug and Shaw's Mountain Region vice president of operations, Peggy Pfaltzgraff-Holden were all recognized as grocery industry leaders.
"These women work hard day-in and day-out to serve our customers and our associates better than anyone else in the industry," says Jeff Noddle, SUPERVALU chairman and CEO. "Their knowledge and expertise make them invaluable assets to the company and we are privileged to have them as part of our leadership team."
The list of women was created based on industry nominations. Several factors contributing to the choice included leadership and influence within both the nominee's company and the greater supermarket industry, areas of responsibility, career accolades and achievements, industry and community involvement, and philanthropic activities.
"We appreciate the value of diversity and we constantly aim to diversify our workforce. Diversity energizes associates, fosters creativity and innovation and ultimately improves overall performance," says Noddle. "We are proud to have strong women in leadership roles and are encouraged by the growing presence of female leadership within the grocery industry."
