Cubic Designs, Inc. Expands Manufacturing Facility

Cubic Designs, Inc., a MiTek/Berkshire Hathaway company, has broken ground on a new 32,000-square-foot plant expansion project in its Waupaca, Wis., manufacturing facility, increasing the size of that plant to a total of 106,000 square feet. This marks the fourth major expansion to Cubic Designs’ Waupaca facility. Cubic Designs manufactures pre-engineered mezzanine systems and related structures for a variety of industrial and warehouse applications.

“We have expanded our Waupaca facility several times before, but this project is one of the most exciting for us. Our new capabilities will open doors to many more markets for mezzanines and custom platforms. Specifically, structures that require hot rolled steel framing, and also applications with customers that require high quality, finished stainless steel,” said Mike Giffhorn, president of Cubic Designs. “We will be highly efficient in our ability to design and fabricate systems with these requirements.”

“This expansion will certainly increase our efficiencies and capacities for the structures we’re already making, but some of the new equipment we’re adding will give us capabilities that we’ve never had before,” stated John Moore, vice president of operations. “Our new bead blast system will allow us to finish our stainless steel systems to food and beverage industry standards, just as easily as we currently powder coat finish all of our carbon steel systems. Our new 6-axis plasma cutter and carbon steel blasting system will allow us to efficiently process hot-rolled steel shapes, which will complement what we already do well with our cold-formed shapes.”

Over the past three decades, Cubic Designs has grown substantially by delivering a full complement of unparalleled design, engineering, fabrication and installation capabilities to customers across the United States.
