Surma Distributors LLC in Brooklyn, N.Y. has recalled Haque brand Golden Raisins because the product contains undeclared sulfites, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). People with severe sensitivity to sulfites risk serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume the product, according to the FDA.
Haque Golden Raisins is sold in a 7-ounce, un-coded, clear plastic package and was distributed in the New York City area.
The recall began after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors. Subsequent analysis by a food laboratory revealed the presence of sulfites which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics, according to the FDA. Anaphylactic shock can occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites, according to the FDA.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the recall.
