Ontario's Food Processing Industry Aims High

A new industry plan sets the goal of growing the industry nearly 50 percent by 2020

The food processing industry in Ontario, Canada, wants to become the province's top economic sector, and is aiming for up to 50 percent growth, 60,000 new jobs and $70 billion in annual revenues according to a new five-year plan released this week by the Alliance of Ontario Food Processors.

In the plan the alliance recommends four steps to achieve these lofty goals, which includes: the establishment of an Ontario food and beverage innovation center to share resources and foster entrepreneurs; simplify and modernize regulations at all levels, municipal, federal and provincial; develop talent and raise awareness of the food and beverage sector as an attractive industry for jobs; and raise the profile of the entire Ontario food and beverage sector at home and around the world.
