Salmon Disease Close Watch Underway

CFIA to test salmon for disease.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has started to test wild salmon off the coast of British Columbia to determine the status of three salmon diseases, which are highly contagious and cause fatalities in wild salmon.

Approximately 5,000 wild salmon will be collected annually, for a minimum of two years in order to properly evaluate the salmon. The Agency will also evaluate the ongoing testing of farmed salmon.
