Preferred Freezer Takes The Gold

USGBC awards LEED Gold Certification to Chicago facility.

Chicago: Preferred Freezer Services has achieved LEED Gold certification for its newest fully-automated Chicago facility.

LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED provides third party verification that a building was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across metrics such as: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

As an owner and operator of state-of-the-art, full-service refrigerated warehouses, Preferred Freezer Services has a vested interest in helping to create a cleaner, more energy efficient environment now and in the future. The company is investing in sustainable buildings and practices, to save energy and encourage environmentally friendly design and construction techniques in its facilities.

USGBC recognizes Preferred Freezer Services gold status for meeting or exceeding a comprehensive list of design and construction criteria using environmentally responsible development. Those earth-friendly attributes of the Chicago facility, located at 4500 West Ann Lurie Place, include:

  • Obtained 40 LEED certification credits;
  • Optimize Energy to Exceed ASHRAE by 42 percent: Water use reduced by over 30 percent;
  • 49 percent recycled materials and 20 percent regional materials;
  • Diverted 99 percent of construction debris from disposal;
  • Zero ozone depletion and global warming potential.
