» Cargill Meat Solutions’ Schuyler, NE beef processing plant replaced its manually operated system with a Retrotech Inc. automated box handling and shipping system. The system supports 53,000 storage locations and can deliver boxes either as pallets or as a box stream to be floor loaded and can build mixed SKU pallet loads.

» Hanson Logistics, St. Joseph, MI, has completed its expansion of the temperature-controlled Chicago Consolidation Center, located in Hobart, IN. The expansion includes 8,000 pallet positions, staging and dock space for frozen and refrigerated foods.

» New England Produce Center, Chelsea, MA, has installed 79 Carrier Transicold Vector 5100 all-electric trailer refrigeration units to replace its diesel-powered units. The upgrade is expected to remove more than 300 tons of air pollutants annually.

» Richmond, VA-based Loveland Distributing Co. Inc. has implemented advanced distribution planning software from Paragon Software Systems Inc. The software optimizes Loveland’s delivery routing of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks such as Red Bull, Sweet Leaf Tea and Nesquik to 3,000 licensed retailers including Wal-Mart, Food Lion, Kroger and 7-Eleven.

» Lenexa, KS-based Centralized Supply Chain Services LLC, (CSCS), the sole purchasing agent for the Applebee’s and IHOP systems, has renewed its logistics contract with ArrowStream, a provider of logistics services and supply chain management technology.

» Nirvana, Forestport, NY, has begun shipping its premium natural spring water products throughout North America on Intelligent Global Pooling Systems (iGPS Co. LLC) pallets. The switch will help Nirvana achieve operational savings and a lower environmental footprint.

» Kirschenman Enterprises Inc., a leading grower/packer/shipper in Bakersfield, CA, has signed an extension to use CHEP’s pallet and container pooling system. The pallets help the company reduce solid waste generation by about 20,000 pounds and decrease greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 15,000 pounds annually.

» Dominguez Hills, CA-based Maruzen of America has installed Purfresh Cold Storage as a key component of the company’s refrigerated warehouse offerings. Purfresh’s intelligent atmosphere system, which incorporates ozone-based technology, naturally and effectively reduces decay, controls ripening, enhances food safety and eliminates cross-contamination from one company’s produce to another.

» Two leading distributors of fine wines, Barterhouse and Noble House Wines, both New York based companies, have signed an agreement to join forces and create a new company: Gotham Wine Group. The merger will bring together the strengths of each, including the logistics and distribution channels provided by Noble House.

» LeanLogistics of Holland, MI, has opened a principal sales and service office in Mississauga, Ontario, operating as LeanLogistics of Canada. The new office will provide sales and support for the full suite of LeanLogistics On-Demand TMS technologies and supply chain services. In addition, On-Demand TMS offers both French and English interfaces specific to Canadian regulations and processes.

» Yale Paints Lift Truck Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness

Barclay Brand Ferdon, a Yale distributor in New Jersey and New York for all warehousing equipment and support services, supported National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by raising money and awareness through the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk in Woodbridge Center in Woodbridge, NJ, which was held on Oct. 17.

The distributor also displayed a pink painted Yale forklift truck on its front lawn throughout the month of October.

“We have pledged to match all of the donations made by our employees,” says Skip Russo, president and CEO, Barclay Brand Ferdon. “I am proud of the people who work for Barclay. Although it has been a tough economy for all of us, our employees have really stepped up to make a difference in our community. We’ve also had a great response from our vendors in support of this effort.”
